Review the type of absorption material used for the tiles. Material can range from fiberglass and polyester to green or recycled materials. These can include recycled cotton and cellulose fibers.

Compare the acoustical performance of the tiles by looking at the NRC rating. The NRC, or Noise Reduction Coefficient, is a number rating from 0 to 1, with 1 being the most absorptive.

Look at the dimensions and weight of the tiles. Sizes can range from 1 inch by 2 inches to 2 inches by 4 inches. The weight of the tile is based on its size and can range from 3 pounds to 9 pounds.

Determine the prices that are being charged per tile from multiple vendors. You can also look to see what color options are available for each type of tile.

Find out how each type of tile is installed. Some tiles use adhesive, while others can use loop fasteners or require double sided tape.

Some types of acoustic tile are made from a bonded acoustical cotton.
You will not be able to compare the actual texture or color of the tile if you do not go to a tile store in person.
