How to Clean Corrugated Plastic

Corrugated plastic is easy to clean.

Corrugated plastic is used in many products. According to ABC Packaging, "Corrugated plastic is formed when two plastic liners made from high-impact polypropylene copolymer resins are fused together on either side of a sheet of wavy plastic known as fluting. Together, these three layers create a weather and chemical-resistant material ..." Cleaning corrugated plastic is easily accomplished, and the durability of the product lends itself well to multiple cleanings with no ill effects. By using common household dish detergent and water, you can clean corrugated plastic.

Things You'll Need

• Liquid dish detergent
• Water
• Sponge
• Garden hose (optional)
• Sink or bathtub (optional)
• Towel (optional)
• Plastic cup (optional)

Instructions

1. Wet the corrugated plastic item with water. If it is a larger object, you can take the it outside near a garden hose to clean. Small to medium objects can be cleaned in the sink or bathtub. The water can be cold or warm, but hot water will work best on filmy or greasy plastic surfaces.

2. 

   Liquid dish detergent will wash corrugated plastic.

   Squirt liquid dish detergent on the corrugated plastic product you wish to clean. According to ABC Packaging, "Corrugated plastic is chemically inert to nearly all acids, chemicals, detergents, grease and oils ..."

3. Scrub, in a back-and-forth motion, the corrugated plastic with the sponge. If you have a particularly dirty or filmy plastic item, a sponge with a mild abrasive side will work well. According to ABC Packaging, "Not only will plastic corrugate outlast paper by 20 to 40 times, but it can also be cleaned with soap and water, to be used again and again."

4. 

   If working outside, use your garden hose to clean corrugated plastic.

   Rinse the corrugated plastic object with water to remove all soap residue. If using a garden hose, hold the plastic with one hand while you spray water all over the corrugated plastic. If using a sink or bathtub, a hand held sprayer or plastic cup will assist you while rinsing. Fill the cup and pour the water over the soapy corrugated plastic.

5. Dry the corrugated plastic item with the towel in a circular movement, or allow the plastic to sit outside and air dry until thoroughly dry.

Tips & Warnings

• Because corrugated plastic is so durable, you can choose to clean the plastic with most household cleaners or car cleaning products without any harm being done to the corrugated plastic.
