How to Make a High Powered Pellet Gun

Pellet guns use springs or other means to fire a projectile. You can make a pellet gun that will be able to fire a pellet for great distances by putting together a few parts from a hardware and hobby store. The pellet gun will be powered by air and so always ready to shoot. You do not need to have a lot of experience to put together a high-powered pellet gun, but adult supervision is required if the person making the pellet gun is a child.

Things You'll Need

  • 6-inch long, 1-inch wide metal pipe
  • 14-inch long, 3/8th-inch wide copper pipe

  • Portable drill
  • Teflon tape

Instructions

    • 1

Place the ball valve on a protected table or other hard surface. Screw the metal pipe into the corresponding socket of the ball valve. Screw the copper pipe into the other socket of the ball valve.

    • 2

Use the soldering iron to apply solder around the copper pipe where it meets the ball valve. Let the solder cool.

    • 3

Wrap Teflon tape around the metal pipe where it meets the ball valve. Wrap a plastic tie around the metal pipe where it meets the ball valve. Pull the end of the plastic tie through its loop to lock it in place.

    • 4

Use the portable drill to make a hole in the center of the metal cap. Insert one end of the Schrader valve stem into the hole in the metal cap. Apply bonding glue around the Schrader valve stem where it meets the hole of the metal cap. Let the bonding glue dry for at least a day.

    • 5

Place the metal cap on the end of the metal pipe. Wrap Teflon tape around the metal pipe where it meets the metal cap. Wrap another plastic tie around the metal pipe where it meets the metal cap. Pull the end of the plastic tie through its loop to lock it in place.

    • 6

Attach the tip of the air pump to the Schrader valve stem. Pump until the meter reads “120” or greater. Remove the tip of the air pump from the Schrader valve.

    • 7

Place a BB into the end of the copper tube. Aim the copper tube at an appropriate target, such as a tree in your back yard. Turn the valve on the ball valve to fire the BB.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not aim any kind of gun at any living thing—the projectile can be dangerous and cause harm to whatever it hits.
