How to End a Leather Cord Necklace

Leather cords make natural-looking jewelry. With some beads, stone or a pendant, leather cord jewelry hearkens back to the days of ancient Greece. There are two ways to finish a leather cord necklace depending on the length of the necklace. If it is long enough to go over your head, use a knot to finish it. If it is too short to go over your head, use a coil clasp to finish it instead.

Instructions

  1. Knot

    • 1

Hold both ends of the leather cord next to each other in your thumb and index fingers and adjust them so they are the same length.

    • 2

Drape both ends of the cord over your index finger and twist them around the length of cord on the other side once.

    • 3

Pull the ends through the hole in the cords.

    • 4

Tighten the knot from the long side of the cord. Make sure the ends of the cord are no longer than 1 inch.

    Coil Clasp

    • 5

Cut your leather cord to the proper length.

    • 6

Slip the coil clasp over the end of the leather cord until it is all the way on.

    • 7

Use pliers to pinch the coil into place over the leather cord all along the length of the clasp until it is tightly in place.

    • 8

Repeat with the other end of the leather necklace.
