Visit PayPal's website. Click on the "Sign Up" link.

Determine what type of PayPal account you want to create. The basic account is a Personal account--it's best if you only plan to send money (make purchases). A Premier account is better for receiving money. A Business account is used if you are operating a business online and using a business name. Click on the type of account you want to create.

Enter your personal information (email, username, password, full name, address and telephone number) and click "Agree and Create Account."

Choose what type of account you want to link to your PayPal account. You can use a credit card or a bank account. For Premier accounts, a bank account is required. Click on "Continue" under the method of your choice.

Enter your banking information (or credit card number) and click "Continue." If using a credit card, you'll be ready to make online purchases with your PayPal account. If using a bank account, PayPal will make two small deposits (a few cents each) to your account within two or three days. These deposits contain an authorization number (under the merchant name) needed to activate your account.

Check your bank statement online (if you don't have online banking, call your bank to request information about the two deposits--otherwise, you'll have to wait until your next paper statement arrives) and write down the authorization numbers.

Log in to your PayPal account. Enter the information to activate it.
