How to Delete the History From a Search Bar

Delete search bar history.

A search bar is a toolbar that remains open in your Web browser. This bar gives you the options to search for entries without needing to visit a search engine website, such as Google or Yahoo!. The entries that you search for using the search bar will remain in the search bar's and Web browser's history. In order to delete the search bar history, you will need to delete the entire browsing history saved in your Web browser.

Instructions

Internet Explorer

1. Open an Internet Explorer window.

2. Click "Safety" at the top of the window and a drop-down menu will open.

3. Choose "Delete Browsing History" and a window will open in Internet Explorer. Seven different options will be located inside that folder.

4. Click on the boxes that are found to the left of the six bottom options to add check marks to those boxes. Leave the box for the "Preserve Favorites website data" setting unchecked.

5. Click "Delete" at the bottom of the open window and the history will be deleted from the search bar.

Firefox

1. Open a Firefox window.

2. Click "Tools" at the top of the window and a drop-down menu will appear.

3. Choose "Clear Recent History" in the drop-down menu. A window will open in Firefox.

4. Click the "Time range to clear" drop-down box at the top of the window mentioned in the previous step and select "Everything." Then click on every box located at the bottom of the open window to place checks inside of those boxes.

5. Click "Clear Now" at the bottom of the open window. The search bar and browser history in Firefox will be deleted.
