How to Read an SD HC Card
Secure digital high capacity (SDHC) cards are small storage devices that are often used to store data on portable electronic devices like cell phones or digital cameras. SDHC cards can hold much more data than SD cards, with capacities reaching up to 32GB. Because SDHC cards can hold so much data, you may use the card as a way to transfer large files between devices. In order to transfer files, however, you must first know how to read an SDHC card.

1
Turn on your computer and allow the operating system to load.
-
2
Insert the SDHC card into the SD card reader or directly into your computer's media card slot. You can use any SD card reader as there is no special reader for SDHC cards. Be gentle when inserting the card; it shouldn't take too much force.
-
-
3
Plug your SD card reader into your computer if that is what you used in step 1. SD card readers interface with computers through the USB port of the computer.
-
4
Wait a few seconds to allow your computer to recognize that you've connected external hardware.
-
5
Locate your SDHC card on the computer. Click "Start," and then "My Computer." Under "Devices with removable storage," you should see the SDHC card.
-
6
Double-click the SDHC card to open the contents of the card. Your computer is now successfully reading the SDHC card.
-
7
Read a specific file by double-clicking any file inside the SDHC card folder. Alternatively, you can copy files to your computer's hard drive and read files from there. To do this, right-click a file inside of the SDHC folder and select "Copy." Then, open a location on your computer where you want to copy the file and right-click. Select "Paste" and the file is copied onto your hard drive. Do this for larger files, like media files, because they are likely to run more smoothly off of the main hard drive.
