How Do I Import a Video Clip to Adobe Photoshop Elements 5?

Photoshop Elements 5 is a software program used primarily for photo image editing. Although Elements is a simplified version of the full version of Adobe Photoshop, it remains an affordable and powerful alternative. Elements is popular among photo enthusiasts, beginners and hobbyists. Importing a video clip into Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 is achieved by using the Organizer workspace.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Display menu and choose "Import batch or folder location view." Browse to the location where files are saved on a computer's hard drive or another device.

    • 2

Select the AVI or MOV video file(s) to import. Elements 5 is predominantly for photo editing and can only import a single frame from an AVI or MOV (QuickTime) video clip. In Photoshop Elements 5, when you select folder location, a complete directory listing is available for you to browse for choosing which files to import. Another way to import a video file through the Organizer is to click "File" and select "Open."

    • 3

Save the single-frame video clip in a graphic file format. The single-frame video file must be saved in a standard graphic file format such as PSD, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, PDF and RAW camera files.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add tags or keywords to imported file(s). Since the primary function for the Organizer workspace is to catalog all imported multimedia files, including video clips, adding tags or keywords allows you to easily manage and search various media files.

  • After the single frame file is imported into the Organizer and saved in a standard graphic file format, you can then use Elements' other built-in workspace, the Editor. This feature allows users to manipulate the image file.

  • Depending on how the video clip is to be used, you may want to consider combining the integrated functionality of both Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 and Premiere Elements 3, or upgrading to a later version of these Adobe software programs.
