Roll a center pull yarn ball.

When you purchase skeins of yarn, usually these skeins are ready to use with a tail of yarn extending out from the center of the skein. By simply pulling this yarn tail, you unwind the yarn and you can begin using it for your crafting purpose. Making your own yarn balls is a simple process that will enable you to organize your yarn into balls that are ready to use. Roll a center-pull yarn ball yourself that is ready to unwind as you use the yarn.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a tube with the cardstock. Draw a 3-inch by 4-inch rectangle with the pencil and cut it out. Fold the cardstock to make a 3-inch by 2-inch tube and tape the 3-inch edge to secure the tube.

    • 2

Thread the end of the yarn through the cardstock tube so that the end of the yarn extends out from the tube approximately 5 inches.

    • 3

Begin wrapping the other end of the yarn around the tube, wrapping the yarn around the 2-inch width of the tube.

    • 4

Continue wrapping the yarn along the entire length of the tube, but do not wrap the yarn around the end of the tube where the yarn tail extends. Wrap the yarn around and around the tube and as you wrap you will eventually enclose the other end of the tube in wrapped yarn. As you continue wrapping, the yarn will build into a sizable shape. You can shape the yarn into a ball shape by varying how you wrap the yarn and adjusting the direction of the wrapping. Make sure as you wrap to keep the yarn away from the end of the tube where the yarn tail extends because you must be able to pull the yarn out from the tube.

    • 5

Wrap until you finish wrapping the yarn. Tuck the end of the yarn under the other wrapped layers of yarn.

    • 6

Pull the original yarn tail out from the center of the yarn to unwind the yarn ball easily from the center of the ball.
