Personal computers in the '90s and the early 21st century came standard with dial-up modems that often had fax capabilities built in. These fax modems could send and receive documents from regular fax machines as well as other computers. As long as the computer you are faxing has a fax machine, it's easy to send documents.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the computer on and plug a phone cable into the fax modem, and make sure no other device is on the line that will pick up, such as an answering machine.

    • 2

Scan the fax the same way you would any other fax. Put the paper on the glass or through the feeder.

    • 3

Dial the number and let the fax send. The computer should pick up depending on the number of rings the fax modem is set to. If the computer does not pick up, consult your manual to make sure it has a fax modem.
