How to Make an Image of a Notebook Hard Drive

A drive "image" is a single file that contains all the contents of a hard drive. Making a drive image serves as a backup for your computer, allowing you to restore it to its previous state in the event of system failure. Creating a drive image can be accomplished by using the backup tools that are pre-installed with your operating system. This task will create an Windows backup image file (typically a .bkf file) on your drive.

Instructions

1. Click "Start," open "All Programs," open "Accessories," open "System Tools," and click on the "Backup" program.

2. Select the option to "Back up files and settings."

3. Click the option to back up "All information on this computer." This will create an image file of the entire notebook drive.

4. Select the location where you wish to store the image file and press "Finish" to begin its creation.
