How to Use Kemper Circle Cutters

Kemper pattern cutters are small metal cutters that closely resemble cookie cutters, but are smaller. Each cutter has a spring loaded handle on top that makes ejecting the clay shapes easy. They are used to cut out shapes from clay, thus creating intricate designs or adornments for the finished clay product. Kemper manufactures the pattern cutter in a variety of shapes, including the circle cutters which cut different sized circles in the clay.

Instructions

    • 1

Roll out the clay to the desired thickness using a clay rolling pin or other flat object.

    • 2

Place the circle cutter on top of the wet clay and push down on the sides of the cutter until it touches the table underneath. Do not press down on the handle as this will prevent the cutter from creating a circle.

    • 3

Place one hand on the clay and the other hand on the kemper cutter handle. Pull up on the handle to remove the cutter from the clay.

    • 4

Hold the bottom of the circle cutter in one hand and press down on the handle with the other hand to eject the clay circle from the cutter. Roll the circle back into the excess clay if you are simply creating holes in the clay. You can also place the clay circle on other areas of the clay to create designs.
