The standard car stereo in most cars is designed to make the highest number of consumers happy. As a result, you may not have everything you want in a stereo. Fortunately, you can replace the stock stereo with an aftermarket model with whatever features you want, but first you have to remove the standard deck. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2007 Ford Freestyle, but the process is similar for other vehicles as well.

Things You'll Need

  • Hook tool
  • Phillips-head screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

      Place the hook tool between the gray bezel that goes around the stock radio and climate controls and the dashboard assembly. Pull the hook tool and bezel toward you.

      Grip the sides of the bezel with your hands. Pull it off of the dashboard and place it to the side.

      Unscrew the factory stereo from the dashboard using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Then lift the deck off out of the dashboard using your hands, then unplug the antenna and wiring harness connections from the back using a free hand.
