Instructions

    • 1

Cut one piece of fabric in half. Fold the edges of both halves in by 1/2 inch and pin, then iron to hold the seam. Lay the two pieces on top of one another with wrong sides facing and use a sewing machine to sew a hem around all four sides. Put the hemmed piece of fabric on the side of your desk under your computer, or on top of a low shelf in your cube to provide a splash of color.

Use a second piece of fabric to sew a cover for the back of your office chair. Cut the fabric in half and pin the two pieces together with wrong sides facing. Use your sewing machine to sew three sides together, leaving the bottom edge open. Sew up the hems on each piece of fabric on this bottom edge for clean lines; now your fabric should resemble a large pocket. Slide this pocket of fabric over the back of your office chair to give it a colorful look.

Take your third piece of fabric and wrap it around the cork portion of a bulletin board. Simply pull the cork out of the frame, wrap it with the fabric and glue the fabric down to the back of the board using your craft glue. Put the cork board back into the frame and hang it on your cubicle wall. Now your bulletin board has a festive spring look to it.

Display your plant and your colorful picture frames on the open surfaces in your cube. The plant will bring color, oxygen and a little piece of springtime into your cube. Put photos of outdoor activities or landscapes in the frames so they will remind you of your favorite parts of spring even when you're stuck indoors.

Tips & Warnings

  • A few yards of fabric can go a long way to brightening up a small cubicle, and still maintain a business-appropriate atmosphere.

  • If you don't have a sewing machine, glue the hems with craft glue instead.
