Playing sounds is a basic function of any computer. If it seems that your speakers are not working, there are a several ways to fix the problem.

      Make sure your speakers are plugged in and turned on.

      Check that your speakers are plugged into your computer correctly. If you are using a sound card, there are probably several jacks where the speaker cable can be inserted. Check the sound card's manual, or just try them all out.

      Check the Windows volume setting. An icon that looks like a speaker is usually located on the right side of the task bar (the bar with the "Start" button on it). Double-click on the icon and you will see an adjustable bar that controls the level of volume. Make sure it is not set too low or muted.

      Install drivers. Drivers are pieces of software that let your computer interact with your sound card. Go to your sound card manufacturer's webstie and find the most recent driver for your model. Download it and double-click it to install.
