How to Clean Black Smoke From Candle Holders

Black smoke stains on candle holders can be easily removed.

Black smoke from candles can cause soot to collect on the inside of glass candle holders and candle jars. This soot can be cleaned with or without removing the candle from the holder.

Things You'll Need

• Paper towel or soft cloth
• Dish soap

Instructions

1. Extinguish the candle and let the wick and wax cool before attempting to clean the candle holder or remove the candle.

2. Dampen a paper towel or soft cloth with water. Wipe the inside of the candle holder with the cloth until all black smoke or soot is removed. This method works best in the case of jarred candles, when the candle cannot be removed from the candle holder.

3. Soak the candle holder in warm, soapy water. Wash the candle holder with a soft cloth until all of the soot is removed. This method works for candle holders without candles.

4. Dampen a soft cloth with rubbing alcohol and rub candles to remove any black smoke or soot from candles.

5. Wait for the candles and candle holders to dry completely before relighting.

Tips & Warnings

• Keep the wicks of candles trimmed to less than 1/4 inch to reduce black smoke and soot.

• Never leave a candle unattended.

• Never attempt to clean a candle holder when the candle is still lit.
