How to Fix Formica Kitchen Counters

Formica is a name-brand laminate frequently used for kitchen and bathroom countertops. It is an inexpensive alternative to tile or stone countertops, with many colors and designs to choose from. While Formica is durable, it can become scratched or nicked with careless use. Repairing your Formica counter can restore its good looks and save you a lot of money compared to replacing it. Things You'll Need

• Laminate filler
• Towel
• Putty knife
• Laminate sealer
• Fine-grit sandpaper
• Paintbrush (optional)

Instructions

1. Apply the plastic laminate filler to the cracks and nicks, smoothing it over with a putty knife.

2. Wipe away excess filler around the crack with a clean, damp towel. Allow the filler to dry completely. This takes several hours, depending on the humidity level. More humid conditions keep the filler moist longer.

3. Sand the area with a fine-grit sandpaper.

4. Apply a laminate sealer to the entire countertop for a uniform new look. Some applications are spray-on, while others are applied with a paintbrush. Allow one to two hours to dry.
