How to Open an ACL Brace
ACL braces are amongst the most common knee braces because ACL injuries and tears are the most common knee injuries. IF you have an ACL injury or suffer from ACL pain, a brace is necessary to protect and support your Anterior Cruciate Ligament. In addition to ACL support, an ACL brace can also provide protection to other ligaments in the knee, and provide better stabilization while walking, running, or playing sports. Learning how to open an ACL brace is necessary so the brace can be securely removed and properly donned the next time it is used.

1
Seat yourself in a comfortable position where you can note the position of the brace in relation to the center of your knee. Remember this position (center of the joints should be aligned with the center of your knee) for when you put the brace on next time.
-
2
Still seated, bend your knee slightly so that the brace will be secure while you prepare to open it. Relax the muscles in your leg.

3
Remove the topmost strap by unlatching the Velcro on the braces strap. Pull the Velcro through the loop or buckle on the side of the brace. Refasten the hook and pile on the open strap to protect the Velcro from wear.
-
4
Remove the next strap down the leg by following the example above for the first strap and then unfasten the two straps on the lower leg below the knee joint.
-
5
The brace is now open and can be pulled off of the leg. To pull the brace off, gently pull at the joints in the brace until you can easily pull it free.
