How to Be a Thomasville Model for Belk
Becoming a model is not always as difficult as the public makes it out to be. The stereotypical model in the minds of many people is a super skinny, super sexy man or woman. But today, the modeling industry is also interested in more "average" types as many advertising campaigns are looking for "real" people rather than glamorized ones. To become a model for any company, you need one thing: a modeling agency contract.

1
Develop your personality. It is not enough to just look good; a model should be confident and charismatic. However, be careful not to come across as cocky and egotistical, and instead, concentrate on being friendly and outgoing. Also, deal with and get rid of your fears and hang-ups--let the real you can shine through.

2
Take care of your body and your skin. Invest in a good skin care regimen including a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer with a sunscreen additive. Take care of your hair as well. Make sure that you get your hair trimmed or cut regularly, and keep split ends at bay. There are several products on the market that can help to stave off split ends even when your hair is exposed to heat. Keep up with dental appointments and physicals. Exercise daily to improve your skin and physique on a daily basis. These things are essential to keeping your body looking great.

3
Work on your posing in a full-length mirror. Every time you strike a pose, look at your entire body and give yourself some critiques; work on your techniques. Turn several different poses into a fluid movement.
-
4
Work on your runway walk. Watch videos, many of which are free online, of models walking on the runway. Take note of a typical walk versus a signature walk. Watch yourself walk in a full-length mirror, or better yet, record yourself on video and review the footage. Critique yourself and work to develop your walk.
-
5
Get your headshots and body shots done. These are pictures you include in your portfolio for prospective modeling agencies. They will show agencies and designers how you photograph. Agencies understand that you may not have much experience, and techniques can be learned.
-
6
Go on "go-sees" to modeling agencies. A "go-see" is a term in the modeling industry that means you go to see designers and try to book jobs. Often times, your modeling agency will book those for you, but in this case, you will go to different modeling agencies or modeling conventions where they recruit new models and try to get a contract.
-
7
Ask your agent, once you've been accepted to an agency, to set up a "go-see" with Belk. There are several different designers with whom Belk works. Once you get your foot in the door with Belk, ask if they could set up a "go-see" with the Thomasville designer.
