What Is the Best Way to Farm Gold on Guild Wars?

Players who seek to jump start their gold flow in Guild Wars can do so by participating in a practice known as "farming." This requires a constant slaying of enemies in one particular area. Your goal with gold farming is to obtain as much money as possible from your defeated foes. You can obtain gold through dropped loot and crafting materials.

Instructions

  1. Kill, Collect, Repeat

    • 1

Venture outside of any town into its neighboring area. For example, if you're in Ascalon, head for the Ascalon Foothills or the Eastern Frontier. Those in Kryta can visit Nebo Terrace or Stringray Strand.

    • 2

Head for the first group of enemies you see on the map. For example, if you're in Nebo Terrace, you may come upon a group of Hellhounds.

    • 3

Attack and defeat the enemies. Choosing lesser level enemies than yourself will speed the process up and will help prevent you from taking too much damage or dying. Remember, you are trying to obtain loot, not experience, from the monsters.

    • 4

Loot the enemies after defeat. Hellhounds, for example, drop Sephis Axes, Decayed Orr Emblems, and Piles of Glittering Dust.

    • 5

Continue to attack and defeat all enemies in the area. Move on to a nearby area and clear it of enemies, looting all dropped items.

    • 6

Return to the first area to take out re-spawned enemies. Repeat until your inventory is full with loot.

    • 7

Head into town and speak with a merchant. Sell off your loot for a substantial gold reward. Repeat this strategy to create a steady stream of gold.

    Increasing Gold with Materials

    • 8

Go to any merchant in a town and purchase ten Salvage Kits, one Superior Identification kit, and one Superior Salvage Kit.

    • 9

Leave town and locate a group of enemies to attack. Defeat the enemies and pick up their dropped loot.

    • 10

Select the Salvage Kit from your inventory and then one of the dropped items from your enemy. The Salvage Kit will break the item down into crafting items--such as bolts of cloth, bones, scales, or plant fibers. Repeat on all other dropped items. For example, a Sephis Axe dropped by a Hellhound can be salvaged into iron ingots, wood planks, and steel ingots.

    • 11

Before salvaging, select the Superior Identification Kit for an item whose name appears in a blue, purple, or gold font. Identifying the item first will yield higher value crafting materials.

    • 12

Return to the merchant and sell off your materials, or speak with other players who may be in need of the items. You will obtain more gold pieces, as each item can break down into several crafting materials.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vary your farming techniques. Use the loot drop technique to make gold to invest in Salvage Kits. Then use the kits to multiply the gold you receive from farming loot--by turning the drops into materials.
