Businesses in Georgia that will be selling products within the state are required to register for sales tax with the state's Department of Revenue. To register with the state, you must first receive an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS. There is no fee to receive an EIN or to register with Georgia's Department of Revenue for sales taxes.

      Contact the IRS at 800-829-4933 to speak with a representative and receive an EIN number for your business. The representative will ask you a series of questions concerning yourself and your business, and then issue an EIN number to you. You can also request the EIN number online, by mail or by fax.       Go to the Department of Revenue in person and get the State Tax Registration Application (CRF-002) at:

      Or complete the application online at the Department of Revenue website. (See Resources.)

      Complete the application. The application will require your business name, address, your newly issued EIN, the business structure, information about any business owners, partners or members, and other information about your business.
