How to Reduce a Speeding Ticket in Georgia

Most states offer traffic school to drivers who have been issued a speeding ticket. By completing the traffic classes, the driver can have the ticket either reduced and/or wiped completely off his record. However, Georgia is one of the strictest states in terms of speeding and traffic laws. Georgia does not offer traffic school, and the only way to reduce a speeding ticket is to plead guilty to the ticket, and then write a letter to the judge explaining your side of the story. Typically, a speeding reduction from a Georgia judge would knock 3-5 MPH off of your ticket, which lowers the fine.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the box on the ticket form that indicates you plead guilty to the charge and will pay.

    • 2

Write a polite letter to the judge explaining the circumstances of the speeding ticket. Only a judge can reduce your speeding ticket, and if you give a legitimate explanation of why you were speeding, she might have it reduced. The address for the judge's office is printed on the ticket.

    • 3

Mail in both the ticket and the letter to the judge to the address specified on the ticket. You will hear back in several weeks whether or not your ticket was reduced.
