How to Put My iPod in Disk Mode

An iPod is more than just a portable personal music player. You can maximize the functionality of your iPod, provided that it is not an iPod touch or iPod shuffle, by enabling the device's disk mode capability. This will allow you to store files on the device separately from your iTunes music library, freeing you from the need to carry a second portable storage device. This is a simple process, requiring only a few minutes of your time.

Instructions

1. Connect your iPod to your computer. If iTunes does not start automatically, open the program and wait for it to load.

2. Click on your iPod's icon in the "Source" pane, located in the left-hand column of the iTunes program window.

3. Select the "Summary" tab in the menu that now appears in the main section of the iTunes program window.

4. Click to place a check mark in the box next to "Enable disk use." If this box is already checked, leave it checked.

5. Click the "Sync" button and wait for the syncing process to fully complete before removing your iPod or closing iTunes.
