How to Remove Center Cap Billet Specialties

Billet Specialties makes wheels made of aluminum, commonly called "billet," referring to the way the wheels are made from one large piece of aluminum, known as a billet. These wheels are very custom, and can be built to any offset or size you desire. They also come with aluminum center caps which require a special wrench to remove; otherwise, you risk damaging the rims.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the vehicle on a level surface and allow the wheels to cool for at least an hour prior to working on them. The aluminum heats up quickly after driving; and if you try to remove the cap immediately, you run a higher risk of stripping the internal threads.

    • 2

Place the hex cap wrench on the center cap so that it goes over the hex head on the middle. Try to turn it counterclockwise using your arms. If that doesn't work, proceed to Step 3.

    • 3

Hold the hex cap wrench at the hex head on the wheel with one hand then hit the handle on the wrench using a rubber mallet. Avoid hitting the wheels in the process. This should break the cap free. If not, allow the wheels to cool for even longer then try again.

    • 4

Untwist the cap off the wheel the rest of the way using the wrench or by hand.
