      Measure the ice cube tray's length from one end to the other using a measuring tape or ruler. Record this measurement as the tray length.

      Measure the ice cube tray's width from side to side. Record this measurement as the tray width.

      Set the ice cube tray down on a flat surface and measure its height. Record this measurement as the tray height.

      Measure the length and width of a single cube reservoir's rim at its widest points. Record these measurements as the cube length and width.

      Lower the end of the measuring tape or ruler into the deepest point of a cube reservoir and take a reading of the measurement at the rim of the reservoir. Record this measurement as the cube depth.

      Count the number of ice cube reservoirs and record this figure as the cube quantity.

Tips & Warnings

  • Measure the height of a couple nested ice cube trays if you plan to stack them in your refrigerator.

  • Releasing large or oddly shaped cubes from rigid aluminum and plastic ice cube trays can be difficult. Try flexible silicone trays to freeze large ice cubes that come out without breaking.
