How to Decorate Kids' Rooms in a Loft Apartment
Decorate a kid's room in your loft apartment to meet the child's needs, while creating a space that flows with the rest of the apartment's decor. Many loft apartments are decorated in a contemporary style due to the modern design and openness of loft apartments. Extend that style to the child's room, as well. Contemporary decor typically consists of sleek furniture, neutral colors with a pop of boldness and a minimalist approach. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Define the child's room by using a room divider, furniture or hanging a curtain in a color that complements the apartment and the child's room. Most loft apartments consist of a large open space without walls to separate bedrooms from the general living space. If your apartment does have solid walls that separate your child's room, consider painting the walls in a bold color.

2
Place modern furniture in the room. A wardrobe that fills one wall (or creates a wall) will provide space for clothes, shoes and toys to stay close at hand, but keep clutter out of sight. A simple bed with a sleek headboard and drawers underneath would function for a child and keep with the contemporary style, as would a bench with storage or a toy box that doubles as a bench.

Use colorful baskets or containers to organize the child's toys when they aren't in use. Place the baskets or containers on shelves, under the bed or in a closet. This keeps clutter out of sight.

Make the space feel more kid-friendly with a bold rug or bedding in your child's favorite color or featuring a geometric pattern. Shapes work well for a child's contemporary room. For example, chocolate brown and pink circles for a girl's room or blue and white stripes for a boy's room. Hang the latest piece of your child's art above her bed in a bright frame.

Tips & Warnings
Keeping your child's toys organized and put away will lend to the contemporary style, as well as give you the opportunity to teach her how to pick up after herself from an early age.
It's okay to build a private retreat for your child by using tall shelves, wardrobes or dividers so that his room can be decorated in any style with any theme without taking from the rest of the apartment's decor.
Keep the decor lower, where your child is able to benefit from it, and where it won't take away from the rest of the decor.
Don't decorate too much. The point of contemporary decor and loft apartments is to live in a clutter-free, minimalist atmosphere. That doesn't mean it has to be void of personality, however. Add color and interest by using a bright color, interesting lamp or rug.
