How to Text to an AT&T Cell From a Computer
Sending a text message from your cell phone to an AT&T cell phone number may cost you money depending on the details of your cell phone contract. One way for you to avoid these additional fees is to sent a text message from your computer to the AT&T cell phone number. Writing a text message from a computer to an AT&T cell is no different than sending an e-mail from one address to another. Knowing which address to send the message to will allow you to send text messages to AT&T cell phones for free.

Sign into the e-mail account you with to use to sent a text from your computer to an AT&T cell phone.

Click on the "Send Mail" or "Compose Mail" link found on the main page for your e-mail account.

Click inside the empty recipient or "To" box.

Type in the AT&T cell phone number. All of the numbers should run together (i.e. "1020304050").

Enter the phrase "@txt.att.net" directly after the phone number. The recipient's address for this example would read "1020304050@txt.att.net."

Click on the inside of the large blank "Compose" text window where you would normally enter an e-mail message.

Type in the text message you want to send to the AT&T cell phone.

Click the "Send" button and the text message will be sent to the AT&T cell phone.

Tips & Warnings
Character limits do not apply when sending texts via computer. Messages that are above 160 characters will be sent to the AT&T cell phone as multiple text messages.
