Online bill paying is quick and easy once you set up an account.

After JP Morgan Chase purchased Washington Mutual (WaMu), online access to accounts held by Washington Mutual customers was transferred to Chase.com. WaMu customers can pay their bills online, transfer funds and check their balances. Those who go to wamu.com will be redirected to Chase's website, where they can log on or create a user ID with Chase.

      Log on to chase.com. If you already have an account at chase.com, enter your username and password, then click "Log on." If you don't have an online account, you can establish one by clicking the "Go" button under "Get a User ID" and following the prompts.

      Enroll in Chase's online bill payment program. Select what type of account (business or personal) you would like to access online. Enter your account number and your Social Security number, then choose a user ID. Your user ID must contain 8 to 32 characters, including at least one letter and one number. An identification code will be sent to you via text message or home phone. Once you receive your code, enter it into the identification code field, choose your password, read the legal agreement and services information and select "I agree." Click on "Submit" for confirmation.

      Select the "Payment & Transfers" tab. To pay your bill online, you must set up a payment method. Select the link titled "Manage payment accounts" to add your checking account as a payment option. You'll need the name of your banking institution, your routing number and your checking account number to enroll. As of March 2010, Chase accepts payments only from checking accounts.

      Select "Make or schedule a payment." Enter the amount you want to pay and the date you would like the payment to be withdrawn. Choose the account you want to use to make this payment, then click "Submit."

      Write down your confirmation number in case you need it for future reference.
