A virtual private network is a closed network commonly used for businesses as a server for employees to send and receive information. Once you've set up the server, connecting it to your Macintosh computer can be easily accomplished. In order to set up VPN and a wireless connection to your Macintosh computer, you must configure your network settings in the System Preferences section, and add the VPN to your list of available connections.

      Click the "Apple" icon at the top of your screen, and select "System Preferences" from the drop-down menu.

      Click the "Network" icon, and click the "+" button near the bottom of the lower-left corner of the screen.

      Click the drop-down menu next to "Interface," and select "VPN." Select your VPN Type, and click the "Create" button.

      Enter your server address and username, and click the "Authentication Settings" button. Enter your password and shared secret, and click "OK." Click "Apply" to save the changes and connect.
