How to Convert DVD to AVI & JPEG

Converting a DVD to an AVI is a great way to get your movies off a disc and onto your computer, cell phone or portable media player for mobile viewing. AVI is a video file container format that is compatible with many different systems and can be converted later back to DVD if you choose. You can also extract JPEG stills from your converted AVI to make video still frames.

Things You'll Need

• BitRipper

Instructions

DVD to AVI

1. Download and install BitRipper from the link provided in the resources section.

2. Open bitRipper. Select the drive you DVD is in and choose "Track 1" in the track drop-down menu.

3. Click the "Browse..." button to choose an output location for your AVI video.

4. Click "Start ripping."

Capture a JPEG video still

1. Browse to your output folder.

2. Right-click on your AVI and go to "Open With>Windows Media Player."

3. Play your AVI video to the place where you wish to capture your JPEG still and press "Ctrl + I" on your keyboard. A dialogue box will pop up to ask you where to save the JPEG.

4. Browse to the folder you wish to save your JPEG still to and press "Save."
