1
Contact the Common Ground Alliance by dialing 811. It is a free service that will come out and mark your underground power lines, preventing any accidents when digging and arranging cobblestone pavers.
-
2
Measure out the desired length and width of your cobblestone arrangement and use wood posts to mark off each of the four corners. Tie a rope around the outside of the wood posts.
-
-
3
Buy all necessary materials. Using 6-inch-by-6-inch cobblestone patio pavers, you will need 400 pavers for every 100 square feet (which is a 10-foot-by-10-foot patio).
-
4
Dig out a hole that is around 8 inches deep within the entire area you marked off.
-
5
Lay down a 3-inch deep layer of gravel across the whole digging area.
-
6
Compact the soil down by using the hand tamper to pound down onto the gravel in 1 square foot sections.
-
7
Measure and saw down two-by-fours to fit onto each of the four inner walls of the building area. Line each of the two-by-fours flush against the inner walls and attach them to each other with a hammer and nails. These boards will act as a border and will help hold your cobblestone arrangement in place.
-
8
Add a two-inch layer of sand on top of the gravel and smooth out the sand with a rake.
-
9
Start setting each of the cobblestone pavers in any corner you choose. Place the cobblestone pavers flush against one another and tap each paver into place with a rubber mallet.
-
10
Once all stones have been set, pour sand on top of the cobblestone paver surface and spread sand between the cracks with a broom.
