How to Burn a DVD Movie on CD-R or CD-RW

How to Burn a DVD Movie on CD-R or CD-RW thumbnail
CDs can store data files, not just audio files.

Burning a DVD movie to a CD-R or CD-RW is easy to do, but you will not be able to watch the DVD through the CD-R or CD-RW because CDs do not work in DVD players. To burn a DVD to a CD-R or CD-RW, you have to burn it as a data CD, which means it functions as a storage drive, not an audio CD. Burning is the same thing as copying; the only reason the term "burning" is used with CDs and DVDs is because a laser is used to write the data to the disc.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the CD-R or CD-RW into the CD drive of your computer.

    • 2

Open the "My Computer" folder, in which the DVD movie is stored.

    • 3

Click on the DVD once and hold down the "Ctrl" and "C" keys to copy the data.

    • 4

Double-click the blank CD-R or CD-RW in My Computer. Press the "Ctrl" and "V" keys to transfer the DVD movie to the CD-RW or CD-R.
