How to Refill an HP 99 Ink Cartridge
The HP 99 ink cartridge is a photo Inkjet cartridge for the DeskJet 5740, 6520 and 6540 printers. The refill kit for the cartridge will save you money and time. The refill kits can be used to refill the cartridge up to 10 times if you do not waste the ink. It will take less then 20 minutes to refill the ink cartridge and have the printer ready for printing tasks.

Place the paper towel on the table. Remove the contents from the refill kit. The refill kit will have a bottle of light black ink, light magenta ink and light cyan ink with three syringes, one for each color.

Remove the top label from the ink cartridge. There will be one filler hole on the top of the cartridge for light black, one hole on the bottom right for light cyan and one filler hole for the light magenta on the bottom left.

Place the needle into the first ink color. Pull back the piston to withdraw 6 ml of ink into the syringe. Do this for each color.

Cover the two filler holes that are not being filled at the time with your finger to prevent any excess ink from getting into the holes. Place the first syringe needle into the hole. Slowly push down on the plunger to inject the ink. Repeat this step for each color. Stop filling the hole if the ink starts bubbling out. Some cartridges will take a little less ink if not completely empty.

Wipe up excess ink with a paper towel. Place the ink cartridge inside the printer carriage. Run two to three test pages so that the ink inside the cartridge circulates.
