Rust often accumulates on the bottom of clothes irons from excessive moisture. This rust can be transferred to your clothing items, creating stains that are difficult to remove. Preventing these stains can make doing the laundry a much easier process. Mixing white vinegar with water inside of your clothes iron will remove the rust found on and inside of your iron. Instructions

    • 1

      Fill the clothes iron with an equal amount of white vinegar and clean water.

      Turn the clothes iron to the "steam" setting.

      Place a cloth or towel onto your ironing board or table.

      Hold the clothes iron roughly 2 to 3 inches above the cloth or towel so that the steam from the iron goes onto the cloth. Press the "steam" button on the iron, if necessary to continue the flow of steam from the iron. Continue holding the iron over the towel until all of the liquid has been removed from the clothes iron.

      Fill the clothes iron with clean water and repeat step 4 in order to empty the water from the clothes iron.

      Turn the clothes iron off and wait about 15 to 30 minutes until the bottom of the iron completely cools.

      Wipe the bottom of the cloth with a dampened cloth in order to remove any leftover deposits found on the clothes iron. Dry the clothes iron by wiping it down with a clean, dry cloth.

      Repeat the cleaning process, if necessary, in order to fully remove the rust found on your clothes iron.
