How to Make a Large-Screen TV Stand
Owning a large-screen television allows you to view your favorite movies and shows in a larger, more dramatic way. You can impress guests when they come over, and you can enjoy your daily entertainment on a superior level. However, when it comes to building a stand for this television, you need to know what materials are sturdy enough and what methods of building will ensure permanent strength and durability.

1
Measure the width and depth of your large-screen television. Add a few inches to each of these measurements, to make sure the television easily fits on the stand and isn't a tight squeeze. Take these measurements with you to the hardware store.

2
Decide what type of design you want to create for your stand. You could just make a table stand to sturdily place the television on, you could make a compartment for the television by surrounding it with sides and a top or you could add shelves and drawers.

3
Purchase all the materials you need. Plywood is the sturdiest type of wood for you to use for a heavy television. Make sure you have all the tools you need also.
-
4
Run a saw through the pieces of plywood, first cutting a piece for the television to rest on with the correct dimensions, then cutting two legs to hold this piece up. Use a self-clamping straightedge to ensure straight lines. The height of the stand is up to you.
-
5
Use a router to create grooves on the piece of plywood that the television will rest on. The legs of the stand will slip into these grooves to ensure extra sturdiness. Cover these grooves in wood glue for even more sturdiness.

Tips & Warnings
To create shelves underneath the piece of plywood that holds the television, cut more pieces of plywood the width of the first piece, then add grooves to the legs for these shelves to slip into.
If the television is too heavy to be placed on a stand, create an entertainment center to surround the sides and top of the television with drawers, shelves and cabinets.
