How to Use RVI for Dogs for Spondylosis

Older dogs can develop spondylosis.

Rubeola Virus Immunomodulator (RVI) is an approved treatment drug for horses to reduce pain associated with chronic myofascial inflammation. Spondylosis in dogs is a degenerative condition resulting from chronic friction in the joint cavity leading to bone spurs. The result is loss of mobility, pain and depression in your dog. The usual recommended treatments for spondylosis involve the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications and possibly surgery. However, there have been documented applications of using RVI for dogs suffering from spondylosis.

Instructions

1. Obtain a proper diagnosis of spondylosis using X rays, MRI or other diagnostic imaging through your veterinarian. Include mobility tests in the rear legs to determine the level of deficit in movement of one or both hind quarters.

2. If your veterinarian agrees to try RVI, he will administer subcutaneous injections of RVI once daily for six days and then review the hind quarter mobility.

3. Obtain a prescription of Adequan if osteoarthritis is present with spondylosis to reduce further degeneration and improve mobility.

4. See your veterinarian regularly to re-examine the mobility of your dog's hind legs. The vet may administer an RVI booster to reduce pain.

5. Monitor the dog's symptoms regularly. The vet may administer another RVI booster as needed to improve mobility.

Tips & Warnings

• RVI treatment for dogs is still experimental and should be done only under the close supervision of your veterinarian. Studies are not comprehensive and more investigation needs to be done to fully understand the pros and cons of using this drug on dogs suffering from spondylosis.
