How to Start a Bank of America Account

Starting a Bank of America account is fairly easy. You can review options online and choose an account based on your situation. After determining the right account, you have several choices for opening the account. Open the account online, over the phone or in-person. However, before getting started, it's helps to know what to expect.

Instructions

1. Determine how much you plan on keeping in the account. The type of account you choose will vary based on the balance you plan on keeping. 3. Apply for an account in person. If you prefer to open a Bank of American account in person, you can visit any Bank of America branch. Make sure to bring identification (such as a driver's license or military identification card) and a check for the opening deposit amount.

4. Apply over the phone. You can also complete a Bank of America application over the phone by calling 800-622-8731. Have your personal information ready (such as full legal name, social security number and current address). You'll need to send an opening deposit to the address the customer service representative provides (this will vary based on your location). The representative can also order new checks for your account, if you request it.

• When ordering checks, require a delivery signature or request pick up at a Bank of America branch location. This will ensure that checks don't get left in your mailbox or on your doorstep, which isn't very secure.
