How to Install and Uninstall an Internal Modem
If you want access the Internet on your computer, you must have a modem installed. Although you can use external modems, you may want to save room on the outside of your system by installing an internal modem. Of course, you may also find a time where you do not need the current internal modem. Removing the current modem from your computer is almost exactly the same as installing one.

Power down the computer and remove all of the cables running into it. Unscrew the Phillips screws and slide open the computer case.

Look at the back of the computer. You can see the motherboard, and along the motherboard are horizontal slots. These are PCI slots and allow you to add additional hardware to your computer.

Slide the internal modem into an available PCI slot. Make sure it slides in firmly to secure the connection. If you are removing the internal modem, press down on the lock buttons to the side of the PCI slot. This releases the internal modem. Pull out the modem that you want to remove.

Close up the computer case, screw in the Phillips screws and plug the cables back into place.

Power on the computer and insert the driver installation CD if installing a new modem. Follow the brief set of prompts that appear on the screen to complete the internal modem installation.
