How to Change the Ink Cartridge on an Epson C42 Printer
The Epson C42 is an inkjet printer that is compatible with both Macs and PCs. It houses two cartridges: black ink and color ink. The ink cartridges will need to be replaced no matter how much or how little printing you do. Epson recommends replacing an ink cartridge when it is six months old, whether it is empty or not. Changing the ink in your C42 is not a difficult task, but there are certain steps you must follow for your printer to work correctly after the change.

2
Press the "Ink/Maintenance" button and hold it for 10 seconds. This button is directly to the right of the power button. At this point, the ink carriage will move to the center of the printer for easy maintenance. If you need to replace both cartridges, the carriage will move into a position where you must change the black cartridge first. The black cartridge is on the left, and the larger color cartridge is on the right. If you only need to replace the color cartridge, the carriage will move into position so the color cartridge can be replaced.

Close the lid to the ink carriage area and press the "Ink/Maintenance" button once again, and this will start a process called "charging the ink." Ink charging takes up to 30 seconds, and when the process is complete the "Ink/Maintenance" light will go out and the power light will stop flashing.
