How to Replace the Cabin Filter for a 2006 Toyota Camry

2006 was the last model year for the fifth-generation Toyota Camry. This model, unlike the previous generation (1997 to 2001), came with a standard cabin air filter. The cabin air filter functions as an interior filter; it filters the air coming into your Camry from the air conditioning vents. When this filter gets clogged, A/C performance is limited. For best result, replace this filter once a year.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • New cabin air filter

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the engine off. Open your passenger side door and open the glove box door. Remove its contents.

    • 2

Inspect the glove box's right hinge. There is a screw facing the passenger side door. Remove this screw with a Phillips head screwdriver.

    • 3

Unhook the plastic hook from the glove box hinge (right next to the screw). Pull the glove box door down toward the floor board.

    • 4

Pull out the filter tray (white) behind the glove box. Squeeze the old filter and lift it out of the tray. If the tray is soiled, clean it off (if using water, make sure you completely dry the tray before installing the new filter).

    • 5

Insert the replacement filter into the tray. Push it down firmly to snap it into the tray. Re-insert the tray into the compartment behind the glove box.

    • 6

Raise the glove box to its normal position (you may have to push the sides inward to raise the tabs above the mount). Re-attach the plastic hook. Tighten the Phillips screw.
