Jobs in baby care range from nannies to nurses to part-time babysitters.

Find a job in baby care if you enjoy being around babies, would like to explore a career in baby care or would like to find part-time work while you go to school. A career, even temporary, in baby care is not for everyone. Caring for a baby, or more than one baby, takes a great deal of patience, attention to detail and flexibility. There are various things you can do to prepare for a job in baby care, which will also improve the likelihood of finding a job in that field.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a CPR or First Aid Certification course. This certification lets perspective employers know that you are certified to handle emergencies. It also shows that you genuinely care about the little lives that will be placed in your hands. Some families and agencies will require you to at least be CPR certified.

    • 2

Sign up for any parenting or newborn care classes you have access to. Ask your local college, hospital or pediatricians for information. The more knowledge you have from reputable, reliable sources; the better. Any additional certifications, such as for completing parenting or newborn classes, will make you more appealing to perspective employers.

    • 3

Babysit for your relatives and friends or volunteer for day care centers or neonatal (newborn) hospital wards. References and experience are necessary for a child care position, particularly when caring for newborns.

    • 4

Submit an application and resume, listing all of your qualifications, with baby care agencies, centers and by word-of-mouth. Pass out fliers or inform anyone you know that you are offering your services in baby care. Schools, church or doctor's offices are some outlets you can utilize.

Tips & Warnings

  • Becoming licensed and bonded, through a small insurance policy, will give you more credence with future employers.

  • Becoming a specialist in baby care, such as neonatal nurse, requires extensive training, degrees and certifications.

  • Baby care can be messy and lead to sleep-deprivation.
