How to Send a Fax to an International Company
If you do business with international companies you should be prepared to communicate by fax with them. Faxing to international companies means faxing to an international fax number, which will not look like the United States' phone numbers. International phone and fax numbers can vary in length and include country codes and sometimes city codes, which are similar to area codes. Sending a fax to an international company is very similar to sending a fax to a number in the United States.

1
Get the country code for the country that the company is located in. The Country Codes website (see Resources) has the country codes for all countries.

Verify that the fax machine you want to use will make an international call. Sometimes offices block long distance and international numbers from fax machines. If you are using a work fax machine be sure to ask if it will take an international phone number.

Begin your fax dialing with “011” instead of “1.” This prefix must be used before all international calls just like “1” is used for long distance calls in the United States.

4
Enter in the country code followed by the fax number. Some international fax numbers may also have a city code. If this is the case you enter in the country code, then the city code followed by the fax number. For example, if you wanted to fax to Austria you would dial 011 + 43 + city code + fax number. The Country Codes website also has city codes listed when they are applicable.
