How to Record Verizon Ringtones

How to Record Verizon Ringtones thumbnail
Use your cell phone to record your own ringtones.

Many cell phones allow you to add your own ringtones; the manner in which you do so depends your device and carrier. Verizon Wireless does not allow you to download ringtones to your cell phone via text message. Therefore, the only way to get ringtones on Verizon cell phones is by purchasing them through Verizon's ringtone service. However, if you have a Verizon cell phone with a recorder, you can record ringtones directly on your phone for free, then send the file to your number in a picture message.

Things You'll Need

  • Verizon cell phone with recorder
  • Music player

Instructions

    • 1

Power on your Verizon cell phone. Open your main menu. Select "Media Center" or 'Get It Now," depending upon which version your Verizon cell phone uses.

    • 2

Click "Music & Tones," then "My Sounds." Select "Record New." Don't start recording just yet, though.

    • 3

Select a track you want to record on your music player. You can use either your computer's music player or your stereo. Fast-forward to the point where you want to start recording. Click "Pause." Turn your speaker volume up to a clearly audible level.

    • 4

Position your Verizon cell phone close to your music player's speaker. Click "Record" on your Verizon cell phone and "Play" on your music player simultaneously. Record approximately 10 to 30 seconds of the song---just enough to make a ringtone. Click "Stop" on your Verizon cell phone, then stop the music player.

    • 5

Click "Save" on your Verizon cell phone to name and save the ringtone.

    • 6

Click "Options" on the sound you just recorded, then "Send." A picture message template appears. Composing a message is not necessary, since you are only sending yourself a ringtone. Input your 10-digit cell phone number, followed by @vzwpix.com into the text box; for example, xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com. Send the message to yourself.

    • 7

Click "View" on the message when you receive it. Click "Options" and "Save as Ringtone."

Tips & Warnings

  • Eliminate background noise before recording, so that no external sounds mar your ringtone.

  • Make sure you send the sound file to the picture messaging extension---vzwpix.com---and not the regular text messaging extension, vtext.com. Verizon disables downloading ringtones in regular text messages.

  • Picture messaging fees might apply, depending upon your Verizon calling plan.
