How to Install a BellSouth DSL Modem

The DSL installation kit includes everything you need.

BellSouth FastAccess DSL service allows you access to high-speed Internet using your existing phone line. When you sign up for FastAccess service, a kit will be sent to you containing everything you need to get started, including your modem. Once the service has been activated on your telephone line, you will be able to install the modem in a few simple steps. This process begins when you receive your FastAccess kit in the mail.

• FastAccess kit from BellSouth containing modem, power adapter, USB cable, phone cord and phone filters

Instructions

1. Make sure that your BellSouth FastAccess DSL service is activated on your telephone line. If the service is not yet activated, you will need to wait to continue your installation.

2. Install the DSL FastAccess software using the enclosed FastAccess CD from your installation kit. Insert the CD into your computer's CD drive and follow the prompts on the screen to install this software.

3. Connect a phone filter to each telephone jack that you use in your house, then reconnect any telephones. This creates a filter between the phones and the jack, allowing you to use your phone without interrupting the data connection from your modem.

4. Install the SpeedStream Modem Software, included in your installation kit. Insert the CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive and follow the prompts to complete the installation. This may require your computer to restart; wait for the computer to finish rebooting completely before continuing.

5. Connect a phone filter to the jack that you will be using for your modem, then connect the included phone cord to the phone filter in the slot marked "ADSL HPN." Place the other end of the phone cord into the appropriate jack on your FastAccess DSL modem.

6. Connect the modem to your computer using the USB cable provided with your FastAccess kit.

7. Insert the power adapter and connect the modem to power. The connection will prompt the "Add New Hardware" window on your computer; follow the prompts to finish the modem installation.
