How to Fill Snow Globes
Few things make better party favors than a homemade snow globe. Children and adults alike enjoy watching the fake snow fall on a wintery figurine. Snow globes are popular around Christmas, but can be adapted for any holiday or occasion. The liquid of most snow globes contains a thickening agent that forces the fake snow or glitter to fall slower. The easiest thickening agent to find is corn syrup, which can be found in the baking aisle of any grocery store.
Things You'll Need
- Towel
- Clear jar with lid
- Figurines
- Hot glue gun
- Distilled water
- Corn syrup
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay a towel on your workspace to soak up any liquid that spills out of the snow globe.
-
2
Hot glue figurines right side up to the underside of the lid. Set the lid aside to dry.
-
-
3
Fill the jar halfway with distilled water and fill the remainder with clear corn syrup. This will help slow down the fake snow and glitter.
-
4
Add fake snow and glitter to the jar. Add enough so that when the fake snow and glitter has fallen it will cover the lid entirely.
-
5
Tightly screw the lid onto the jar being careful not to put pressure on the figurine.

Tips & Warnings
Use cold water as warm water can be clouded.
If you don't want to purchase distilled water, boil water on the stove and allow it to fully cool before using it.
If you are using a jar with a long neck it may obscure the figurine. In this case, use a soda bottle cap as a stand for the figurine.
Consider making a snow globe for other holidays including Halloween where you can use a skull as a figurine and black Halloween glitter instead of snow. In this case, add enough black glitter to obscure the skull to help give it a creepy effect.
Consider using sequins or buttons along with the fake snow and glitter.
Add a picture to your snow globe by waterproofing a picture with clear tape, rolling it up and sliding to through the top of the jar. Use a picture that is just barely small enough to fit into the jar. This will prevent it from folding when you shake it.
If making snow globes with children allow them to arrange the figurines but do not let them use the hot glue gun on their own as it can cause burns.
