How to Downgrade Zune Firmware From 3.X
The Microsoft Zune is the computing giant's attempt to compete with the ubiquitous iPod line of digital media devices. Zunes play video files, music playlists and also work as FM radios and mobile web browsers. The latest Zune firmware, version 3.0, has been buggy and rendered some Zunes almost unusable, which has resulted in many users wishing to downgrade to the old 2.5 firmware.
Instructions
-
-
1
Fully charge the Zune's battery.
-
2
Back up all files on your Zune to your hard drive. Be forewarned that some downloaded music may be unretrievable after the downgrade process.
-
-
3
Uninstall the Zune 3.0 software from your PC's hard drive.
-
4
Open the C: drive and locate all "oemxx.info" files. They should be listed as having been created on September 3rd, 2008.
-
5
Install the Zune 2.5 software. You can find a link to it in Resources.
-
6

-
7
Connect the Zune to your computer. You'll get a "Device Recovery Mode" message and you'll be notified that version 2.5 of the firmware is about to be installed on your Zune.
