How to Start a Baseball Fantasy League With Friends thumbnail
Starting a fantasy baseball league is easily done through Yahoo..

You can choose your own settings and scoring system and play fantasy baseball with your friends in a private league through Yahoo or ESPN Games, the two most popular fantasy baseball leagues. Statistics are kept automatically, and each manager is free to make trades and add and drop players at their leisure. Every Major League Baseball player currently active on a roster is available through these fantasy leagues.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose one person in your fantasy baseball group to serve as the commissioner. This person will be responsible for setting up the fantasy league. As a group, decide on scoring settings, roster sizes, draft date/time and the number of teams before setting up your league. The commissioner must perform the actions in the next two steps to set up the league. Once the commissioner enters the settings, they can not be changed.

    • 2

Go to a site that provides free online fantasy baseball and click on "Create a league." Once the league is assigned an ID number, the commissioner must choose a password that will be unique to this league.

    • 3

Select the scoring settings agreed upon by all of the participants in the league. Remember that once a setting is chosen, it can not be changed.

    • 4

Send the site link and password to each participating player so that everyone can sign into the league. This league will be private--only players who have the link with password will be able to join.

    • 5

Go to the website link and have each player enter the league password. After that, players can begin to set up their team pages by selecting a team name and colors. Once that is completed, league members can begin to draft players for their team rosters.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before the draft begins each player may view the available players and determine a drafting strategy. Every player can participate in a "mock draft"--a practice draft done through the ESPN or Yahoo fantasy baseball site--to get an idea of the drafting procedure and to determine how players are being drafted per their value.
