How to Configure Computer Wildblue

How to Configure Computer Wildblue thumbnail
WildBlue connects through a satellite dish.

WildBlue is a company that provides Internet access for residential and business users via satellite. It works through a combination of DSL and satellite: Your modem is DSL, but the signal is from a satellite. Before you use WildBlue, you'll need to manually configure your computer settings in preparation. Since the software requires a certain amount of memory (RAM), you need to find out whether your computer is capable of using WildBlue.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Windows Control Panel and click on "System Information." Look at your computer's free hard drive space and processor speed. You need at least 300 MHz for speed and at least 100 MB of hard drive space available for WildBlue. You also need an Ethernet card. Most new computers have an Ethernet card built in.

    • 2

Thread the satellite's cord from your outdoor satellite into your home. Plug the end into the DSL modem.

    • 3

Connect one end of another Ethernet cable from the modem into your computer's Ethernet port. Plug the modem into an outlet to turn it on.

    • 4

Place the WildBlue CD-ROM into your computer's disc drive to install the software. An installation guide should pop up. Follow the instructions to set up the drivers and software you need.

    • 5

Go to "Internet Connections" in the Control Panel. Make sure your Ethernet card is the default setting.

    • 6

Open a Web browser and start surfing the Internet.
