It's easy to recover a HP Backup.

Your Hewlett-Packard laptop or desktop system comes with a preloaded file backup utility known as HP Backup and Recovery. The package lets you easily backup your personal documents, photos, music and other files through the use of a "wizard." The wizard walks you through the backup process and saves the files on a removable medium like a CD, DVD or external drive. if you need to recover or restore a specific file or backup, the wizard again walks you through the process and quickly recovers the HP Backup for you.

Instructions

      Close any open programs and files.

      Insert the CD, DVD or plug in the external drive containing the HP Backup you want to restore into your computer's Universal Serial Bus (USB) port. Your computer will recognize the disc or external drive.

      Click "Start," "All Programs," "HP Backup & Recovery."

      Click on "HP Backup and Recovery Manager." The HP Backup & Recovery Manager application will open.

      Click "Next." Click on "Perform a recovery." Click "Next."

      Click on the circle next to "Recover user created files and folders." Click "Next." The "File Recovery Wizard" screen will open.

      Click "Next." Click on the circle next to the wording "Go to Advanced Backup and Recovery Manager." Click "Next."

      Click "Open." A file folder list will open.

    • 9

      Click on your CD/DVD drive if your HP Backup is stored on a disc or click on the drive letter for your external drive.

      Click "Add." The HP Backup file from your CD, DVD or external drive will appear in the "List of scheduled backups to recover."

      Click "OK."

      If prompted for a password, enter the password you set for the backup. Click "OK."

      Click "Select files." Click on the check box at the top of the list of files to recover the entire HP Backup.

      Or click on the check box next to the individual files or folders you would like to recover.

      Click "OK" when you are done selecting files and/or folders.

      Click "Select Location." Select "Recover them to the original location" or " Recover file to the following location." Navigate to the location where you want to recover the files to.

      Click on the "Define Settings" icon. Select if you want the recovered files to replace duplicate files in the old location or keep the most recent file.

      Click "OK."

      Click "Recovery" to start the HP Backup recovery process.
      Click "Yes" to confirm that you do want to start the recovery process.

      Click "Finish" when prompted. Your HP Backup is now restored.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once the backup is restored, the HP Backup files are still stored on your CD, DVD or external drive and can be restored again, if desired.
