How to Make a Pill Holder
You can sew a pill holder out of clear vinyl fabric that allows you to see at a glance what is inside. Many pill holders that are available for purchase are designed to separate pills by days of the week. This pill holder is made with seven compartments that you label as desired, so it could serve as a day-of-the-week container but it also could be printed with the names of specific pills to suit your individual needs.
Things You'll Need
- Small piece of 12-gauge clear vinyl fabric
- Small piece of white tissue paper
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Two paper clips
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Pen
- Needle
- Fine-point permanent marker
- Seven circular 5/8-inch self-adhesive hook-and-loop closures
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut one 5- by 7 1/2-inch piece of vinyl. Cut one 4- by 7 1/2-inch piece of tissue paper.
-
2
Lay the tissue paper horizontally so the 7 1/2-inch edges are at the bottom and top, and the 4-inch edges are on the sides.
-
-
3
Lay the vinyl on top of the tissue paper, aligning the long bottom edge and the two short edges. Hold the two layers together and treat as one piece. Fold the bottom edge up 2 inches. Slip a paper clip on each short side to hold in place. You now have a 2- by 7 1/2-inch tissue paper/vinyl pouch with a 1- by 7 1/2-inch clear vinyl flap at the top.
-
4
Sew though the vinyl and the tissue paper 1/4 inch from each short side. Draw 2-inch vertical lines on the tissue paper in 1-inch intervals across the pouch to divide the pouch into seven equal 2-by-1-inch sections. Sew along each vertical line on the doubled vinyl/tissue paper layer only.
-
5
Tear off the tissue paper. Use a needle to pick out fragments of tissue paper from beneath thread stitches.
-
6
Create individual closure flaps for each section by cutting 1-inch vertical lines in the clear vinyl flap directly above each stitched line that separates the pill holders into sections.
-
7
Stick one side of a hook-and-loop circle in the center of each flap section. Fold the flap over to close it and stick the other half of the hook-and-loop piece in the corresponding spot on the outside of the pouch.
-
8
Label each section as desired with a fine-point permanent marker.

Tips & Warnings
Use a long stitch on your sewing machine to avoid making holes too close together and tearing the vinyl.
Do not attempt to sew the vinyl without a tissue-paper layer. Improper feeding of the vinyl or knotting of thread is likely to result.
